R.I.P. Tupac Amaru Shakur (1971-1996)

Yes. On the night of November 30, 1994, Tupac Shakur was robbed and shot five times in the lobby of the Manhattan building that contained Quad Recording Studios. Tupac alleged that the robbery was a cover for the shooting. (Biggie) and his entourage had been upstairs at the time. They came down to see Tupac being hauled away on a stretcher while sticking his middle finger up at them, believing they were responsible for the attack (an accusation that was never proven). More information on who shot Tupac emerged in 2011 when a convict named Dexter Isaac came forward and confessed to shooting Shakur, saying he had been hired by rap mogul and drug trafficker Jimmy Henchman to carry out the assault. Tupac had suspected Henchman was involved at the time.

Tupac Shakur: The Life and Times of an American Icon …

No. In researching the All Eyez on Me true story, we discovered that Amaru Entertainment, which was founded by Tupac's late mother Afeni Shakur, has not come out in support of the movie. In fact, the movie's production company, Morgan Creek, sued Amaru Entertainment in 2009 in relation to a dispute regarding Tupac's life rights. Morgan Creek was awarded the go-ahead to proceed. This upset Tupac's heirs, who had surely wanted to retain the rights to make their own version.

After gestating in development until 2015, there's little doubt that the success of Universal's N.W.A biopic added to the urgency to bring All Eyez on Me to the big screen, in addition to the option to the rights set to expire. You likely won't hear comments from Shakur's heirs regarding the movie, mainly because a confidentiality clause in the settlement with Morgan Creek forbids them from voicing their thoughts on the film. The family has instead put their full support behind director Steve McQueen's upcoming untitled Tupac documentary. It will explore his career and offer its own theories as to who shot Tupac. -The Hollywood Reporter

Tupac: Resurrection | Documentary Heaven

Yes, Tupac is present in almost every rapper out today. Whether playfully slapboxing the mic or using it with force to bludgeon a message into the minds of non-believers, Tupac had a balance – as imbalanced as it felt at times. He was nobody’s one trick pony, and while we can sit and sort through every rapper from blog to Bentley, none truly have it all. Today marks 16 years since Tupac left this earth, and we still can’t find a comparable emcee.

Shakur also had some disputes with Dr. Dre, who was the in-house producer for Death Row. He claimed that Dre did nothing at Death Row and was taking credit for other people’s work. Shakur got angry when Dre refused to show up and testify in defense of his friend, Snoop Doggy Dogg, in a murder trial. In addition, Shakur made hints in songs that he thought Dre was a homosexual, and Suge Knight concurred in the Tupac Shakur: Thug Immortal documentary.

All Eyez on Me vs True Story of Tupac Shakur and Who …

After the fight with Anderson, Tupac left the MGM Hotel, went to the hotel with his fiance, Kadida Jones. Then, he met up with Suge to go to Death Row’s Club 662 in Las Vegas. The two drove together in Suge’s 1996 black BMW sedan e38 7-series, part of a larger convoy of cars including some of Shakur’s friends, the Outlawz, and bodyguards. Tupac was not wearing a bulletproof vest that night, even though Death Row had provided him with one. At 11:15 P.M., Suge’s car stopped at an intersection on East Flamingo Road. A white Cadillac was seen pulling up to the passenger side of the car, and firing thirteen rounds into the car as Tupac attempted to climb to safety in the back seat. Tupac was hit four times, twice in the chest, and in his arm and thigh, while Suge was scratched by a piece of flying glass (while later claiming in an interview he had a bullet stuck in his head). Tupac then went on to live off of life support for 7 days and his mother finally had the plugs pulled on September 13, 1996 at 4:03 PM. After his death, Shakur was cremated, and his mother reportedly spread his ashes in L.A. saying that Tupac would want to be in the city he loved best.
