ARE THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES CHANGING THEIR NAME TO “BIBLE STUDENTS?”

Despite these positive changes, non-Jehovah's Witnesses still have valid reasons for concern. The Society's prohibition against transfusions remains in place, guaranteeing that very conservative Witnesses will continue to refuse all treatments involving blood fractions (the Society even says that such individuals' "sincere, conscientious stand should be respected"[]). This attitude - which will almost certainly be perpetuated by some elders - will lead to continued deaths within the Watchtower Society.

Jehovah's Witnesses : The Watchtower Bible and Tract …

Even though Jehovah's Witnesses believe they are Christians, it is not alright for them to date or marry a Christian who belongs to another religion. Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in dating people outside of their religion because dating is supposed to lead to marriage, and Paul told early Christians not to be 'unevenly yoked', i.e. they should not develop close friendships and partner with unbelievers.

When Jehovah's Witnesses have serious doubts and when they can't be loyal to the Watchtower any more, they are routinely disfellowshipped (excommunicated) for 'apostasy'.

When talking about things they can't do or are not allowed to do, there are 'gray' areas. Some things, they 'must' not do. Other things they shouldn't do. Some things are not recommended. And some things are a matter conscience. Faithful Jehovah's Witnesses often feel guilty that they might be doing something to displease God. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jehovah's light gets brighter and brighter. That's why there is nothing wrong with changing beliefs as needed. Old understandings of what God requires are quickly forgotten and new doctrines are eagerly adopted as new truths from Jehovah.

The Bible vs. The Jehovah's Witnesses

Although celebrating holidays is strictly forbidden, you might have a JW friend or neighbor who secretly celebrates holidays. Many claim to be Jehovah's Witnesses because they don't want to be shunned by their JW relatives. These JW's are not 'active'. They rarely go to meetings and perhaps never go door to door preaching. Millions of these JW's really don't want to belong but they've afraid of the consequences of leaving. They may not believe in some or all of what the Watchtower teaches. They might secretly celebrate holidays and accept holiday gifts if they believe they won't get caught and no one will report them to Watchtower Elders. [1]

Defend Jehovah's Witnesses: What Does the Bible Say …

If you get in trouble with the organization, the punishment varies depending on the seriousness of your crime, the number of eye witnesses to the wrong doing, how public the matter is, and most importantly your attitude towards the counsel the Elders give you. If you're truly sorry, repentant, and promise never to do it again, you might get away with a slap on the wrist. Pleading insanity or ignorance might work as well if your story is believable. Perhaps certain privileges or responsibilities within the congregation will be taken away from you. However if you argue, rebel, defend your position, and challenge Watchtower doctrines your fate is likely to be sealed.
