Whether you are for or against the change of Andrew Jackson to Harriet Tubman on the bill, it cannot go unspoken that Harriet Tubman was an incredible and strong woman who fought throughout her whole life to pursue the values of American culture: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The addition of Harriet Tubman helps illustrate the battle of American history and the course of actions that has led our country to where it is today with the contributions of men and women.

Not only is this groundbreaking toward feminist movements, but the newest addition to the currency also reflects black history and the campaign movement of #BlackLivesMatter as well. Though racial tensions around the country have decreased slightly among the decades, the issue is still prevalent around the country. Tubman lived in arguably one of the most difficult times in American history and her battle for freedom highlights her strength and courage at such a difficult time for African Americans. Spreading the education of black history and suffrage in the United States is one topic that cannot be stressed enough.

, who helped hundreds of enslaved African Americans to freedom through the Underground Railroad, should be celebrated for her place in American history. Not only is she a woman of color, but a former slave who was brave enough to escape slavery and then help others to do the same. The real question for me is why we did not make this change for our $20 bill sooner and instead left a man responsible for the deaths of thousands of Native Americans representing our country on one of the most frequently-used bills in circulation today.
